"School against children" by Silke Müller

Silke Müller, former headmistress and now one of the most incisive voices for digital ethics and educational justice as an author and speaker, has published a new book: "Schule gegen Kinder" (School versus Children) is a sharp appraisal of our school system and deals with the question of the extent to which our school system prepares children for life in a digitalised world.

Müller makes a lot of very, very good suggestions as to what we need to change as quickly as possible so that school becomes a meaningful thing for children again and argues that, above all, we as a society need to invest heavily in education. Because, as she also emphasises, education is one of the most important resources we have in Germany. We have few rare earths, no crude oil, etc. - for this reason alone, the education of our young people is a very valuable asset in which we definitely invest too little. We are also too unwilling to rethink and adapt things to an increasingly digitalised world.

Digitalisation is something of a hobbyhorse topic for Silke Müller and she always makes the point that it's not about getting children to use tablets or other devices at an early age. It's about them having to learn to learn in a digital world. And that's very different from the old days when you looked everything up in an encyclopaedia.

Conclusion: Lots of exciting points and aspects - an absolute must-read.

Another event recommendation: Silke Müller is coming to Schorndorf on 24 June 2026 for a lecture followed by a panel discussion. The Doc will also be taking part in this and it will be about how we can help children enter the world of digital media, how we can make them fit for it and at the same time protect them from dangers.

Dental health

Please all go "aaaaaaah". We are focusing on the topic of dental health - together with dentist Irina Kuhnert, our practice neighbour. We have summarised nine important points:

Nutrition

Nutrition and healthy eating in a family with children is a really complex and demanding topic. And yet you can get quite far with just two basic rules.

Stool examinations

One issue of increasing importance is unnecessary and often expensive faecal examinations. Very few very useful tests can be carried out with a stool sample. But it can also be used to do a whole lot of - to stay on topic - crap.
