Opinion from Doc 👨🏻⚕️: Scandalous cuts for psychotherapists
The remuneration of psychotherapists is being cut - at a time when many children and young people are already not receiving the therapy they need. It's not just the doctor who finds this impossible.
This week alone, the doctor had to put three young people off indefinitely: there is currently no chance of them finding an outpatient psychotherapy place. And it was no different in the weeks before. The fact is: the need is great, but there are not enough therapy places available.
And what happens at a time like this? The evaluation committee of the central associations of the statutory health insurance funds is reducing the remuneration of psychotherapists by 4.5 per cent. Honestly? Nothing more comes to mind.
We are letting a professional group down here, but above all we are also letting down the children and young people who urgently need therapy. We are already not doing anything to improve the conditions in schools, for example, to reduce stress and suffering.
All in all, this is a devastating signal for health policy.
